Carly Treece
Mvskoke Nation | Cherokee
Carly Treece is a Citizen of the Mvskoke Nation and of Cherokee ancestry whose multidisciplinary practice explores the profound relationship between land, memory, identity, and Indigenous sovereignty. Working primarily in oil and cold wax, Treece creates luminous abstract landscapes that evoke the emotional and spiritual connections she shares with the lands of Indian Territory. Through layered surfaces, rich textures, and atmospheric color, her paintings invite viewers into moments of reflection, healing, and belonging.
In addition to painting, Treece is an accomplished curator and jewelry artist whose wearable works draw inspiration from the natural world and her cultural heritage. Using materials such as seeds, shells, copper, silver, and ethically sourced natural elements, she blends traditional Indigenous craftsmanship with contemporary design to create pieces that celebrate both cultural continuity and personal expression.
Community advocacy is central to Treece’s artistic practice. Her work champions land and body sovereignty while creating space for conversations surrounding Indigenous identity, healing, and self-determination. As founder and president of the Four Mothers Collective in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she works to increase opportunities and representation for BIPOC women, girls, and Two-Spirit artists through exhibitions, mentorship, and community programming.
Treece has curated exhibitions in Tulsa and Santa Fe, spoken on panels addressing Indigenous art and advocacy, and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Her artwork has also been featured in FX’s Reservation Dogs, further expanding the reach of her contemporary Indigenous perspective.
